MARCH 3, 1965: NOW WE GOT THEIR AUTOGRAPHS!!!!!!! Courtesy of Victor, they just arrived at my house. We are so thrilled that we wrote about it in our “Teen to Teen” column, and we called Jack Helsel over at the Philadelphia Daily News.
But back to the autographs: I am actually touching something that the Beatles’ held in their own hands! The menu is from their trans-Atlantic chartered BOAC plane from London. It truly is THE BEATLES BAHAMAS SPECIAL and offers an assortment of foods as they flew to their destination. Victor wrote to us inside the front cover, and the Beatles ALL signed the menu on the white back cover.
Each autograph is about one inch high. Words can not express how we feel right now. Victor is so incredible! This is such an honor. |

| MAY 3, 1965: But I am saving the best for last, as the most exciting part of my Sweet Sixteen birthday was the special gift sent by our Victor. Mom (how can I be annoyed at her?) wrote to Victor on location to ask for Paul’s autograph as a birthday surprise. Sent in a Salzburg Hotel Edelwiss envelope, but postmarked from London was this letter: |

London: March 30, 1965
Dear Patti
I showed your picture to Paul and told him it was your birthday—he wrote greetings to you on the enclosed postcard where we were filming and I got the studio hairdresser to get me a lock of his hair. So what more can you want?
Happy Birthday too
From Victor
Will be on the film six weeks more. Buy April and May Rave, also Seventeen.

Enclosed was a shiny black and white postcard with six views of the Austrian Alps: skiers, ski lifts and the Salzburg crest. Written in the back in black ink was the personal greeting from Paul. “To Patti from Paul McCartney Happy Birthday Love!”
My heart skipped a beat, but then…
Inside the envelope was the Holy Grail of Beatles’ relics, a lock of Paul’s hair cut at Twickenham Studio in London where he is filming the movie. It is about 3 inches long in a “C” shape and is a wonderful color—sort of a rich chestnut brown. I held it up next to my own dark hair, but mine appears nearly black compared to Paul’s very rich brown locks. Want to hear a secret? I now sleep each night with Paul’s hair, which I encased in clear plastic, under my pillow. Maybe I will dream of him. At least, I have a head start.
How can I ever thank Victor for this gift of all gifts?
