Your "Teen to Teen" columnists, Patti Gallo and Diane Lamont are shown above as they held an exclusive interview with the perennial WIBG favorite, Hy Lit. Interview took place on December 18th; and it's in the Globe this week!
In answer to the inevitable question, "What is a Hy Lit"?, as asked by the Beatles and others, we would like to try to answer this,
Hy Lit was born in Philadelphia on May 20. He attended the University of Miami, where he majored in dramatics. After the countless MC'ing of many different radio and TV programs he finally settled down at WIBG. Because of his good looks and warm personality, he is affectionately called HYSKI. In our talk with him we asked many thought provoking questions.
To the question, "What do you think of teenagers in general?", he answered: I am 100% for the kids, I don't cater to adults, who say I'm playing garbage. 'But to teenagers I'd give three days, to adults three seconds. He has a lot of patience with teens, and tries to convert the wild ones by trying reason to them.
When asked about his record hops, he replied that he has the most fun doing them. He usually walks out into the crowds and talks to as many teens as he possibly can. He said, "As long as I can do them, I will."

Standing on the stage with the Beatles and getting an ovation as big as they did, was one of his greatest thrills. Although being the number one DJ seems to be just as big. Adult listeners seem to outnumber the teenagers, this too is one of his great thrills.
Hy mentioned that he likes to cook and fix things. Most of all, he enjoys making Caesar salads. He could spend hours fixing something, and then in the end throw it away. Because of his tight schedule, he has little time for hobbies.
His dislikes are few. He hates the sly little people in stores who say, "Come back and see us again sometime". And also adults, who ask if he likes that junk that he plays.
On nicknames, he stated that in his old neighborhood everyone 'had either "rooney" or "ski" on the end of their name. Thus he acquired "HYSKIOROONEY".
He says from the heart, "I more than appreciate the many fans that I have, and thanks everyone for making me the No. 1 DJ in Philadelphia."
For more than three years he has been No. 1, and is extremely charming and intelligent. Incidentally, he is married to the former Miriam Uniman and they have a son, who is seven years old.
Hyski does tremendous charity work for the "DELAWARE VALLEY TEENAGE MERCY CHAPTER OF THE CITY OF HOPE." And during the Christmas season is especially active in this field.
Hy Lit, YOUR MAN ABOUT MUSIC, is an extraordinary human being, having all the qualities of an all-American DJ, and in our opinion, Hy should get an award for being the top disc jockey in the country. And remember, "KEEP A COOL PAW, LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH AND BE HAPPY, AND DON'T BE NOBODY'S FOOL - ya' DIG? SOLID TED 'NOUGH SAID."
